The Plan

Update 2017. While we hoped we could revive this project it has not happened. If anyone is interested in taking over, please leave a comment.

Knit lots of hats and scarves for patients and survivors or breast and ovarian cancers to be donated to the Komen Foundation for the Cure, Philadelphia Affiliate. We fully support monetary fund raising efforts for the cure. But we also want to do something which will go directly to those who need to know there are people rooting for their health and survival. All skill levels are welcome!

Please join us! The 2011 project ends Sept. 15th.

Project Guidelines

There are no rules - just suggestions. Have fun!

* We encourage you to chose soft comfortable yarns which feel good on bare skin. We recommend Marino Superwash, Cotton, Cashmere, Baby Alpaca etc. Don't know what to get? Ask your favorite knitting store owner.

* So... the color. Well, since the iconic pink represents the fight for the cure... But really,  we are open to any color you want to work with.  Some women don't. like. pink. Feel free to use up those stashes or buy new yarn that you really want to work with.

*Join the blog and post your images of your work. We are a community of knitters and we would like to support each other and see what you are doing.  There are no stolen ideas only improvements on other good ideas. Lisa and I will be the only ones to see all of the projects in person as they come in – so please post so that everyone else can see your fabulous work!

*Feel free to embellish, improve on, alter, have fun with any pattern that is posted. Want to post your own design? We would love that! Please contact Lisa and Tara so that we can make accommodations in our schedule of posts.

*As last year, the final hats and scarves will be donated in October to the Philadelphia Affiliate of the Komen Foundation for the Cure. All projects should be sent no later than September 15th  to the PO Box address on the side bar.

*Please include a tag with your item. Include: type of material, washing instructions, any other personal message is welcome.  Pre-made tags can be printed from the Tag Page.

*We encourage everyone to find people to knit with.  Form support networks and have knitting parties!  Please post photos of your meeting on the blog.

*When posting please be sure that all images are 300 dpi.  We plan to migrate this year's project to a book and all images must be 300dpi for printing or they will look crummy. Contact us for more info or help with this.
